UNI-KH

This is a transformation project of a Khrushchyovka apartment in Tbilisi, Georgia in collaboration with a local architects collective “Altertopos“. “Khrushchyovka” is an unofficial name for a type of low-cost social housing complex building which was developed in the Soviet Union during 1960s. It is obvious that the popular idea of demolishing these buildings is not sustainable in many terms and will cause various social, economic, political, and environmental issues. Our challenge here is to bring a new life value into the typical leftovers from the Soviet era by using as much of the existing condition as possible with local architects. “Khrushchyovka”（ホシチョフカ）とは、1960年代のソ連政府によって考案された旧共産主義圏における最も一般的な集合住宅の通称であり、ソ連期に安価且つ短期間の工程で大量生産された。資本主義化が急速に進むジョージアにおいて、これら過去を象徴する建造物は真っ先に解体される対象であるが、それは同時に膨大な廃棄物や解体費を生み、サスティナブル性の観点からも大きな疑問符がつく動向である。そんな生産性のみを追求したソ連時代の負の遺産へ、現地の若手建築家らと共に新しい価値を装入するアパート改修プロジェクトである。旧社会主義圏においてまだまだ数万という単位で現存するこの集合住宅棟の今後の行く末に、一石を投じるようなデザインを考案中である。詳細は追って更新予定。
